2017 - 2018 Arapahoe Warriors Travel Program

AYHL Travel Program

AYHL's travel program includes every age division: Squirt (10U), Peewee (12U), Bantam (14U) and Midget Minor (16U). As a Tier II program, AYHL has AA, A, and B teams that participate in the Colorado Competitive Youth Hockey League (CCYHL).  This program offers players a very competitive and challenging level of competition that requires a higher degree of physical, financial and time commitment.

League Fee

The AYHL league fee for travel hockey is determined by the team level (i.e. AA, A, or B).  This fee covers practice ice time, home game ice time, home game referee fees, home and away jerseys, practice jersey and helmet decals.

Team Fees

In addition to the AYHL league fee, travel players will incur other costs associated with being on a travel team.  Those additional costs may include the following:  tournament fees, travel expenses, coach's travel expenses, team events and other miscellaneous team expenses not covered by the league fee.

AYHL Scholarships

AYHL Scholarships are available through the Booster Club to any travel team member in good standing with AYHL and not in arrears financially with AYHL for any previous season.

TOP LEVEL 2017-2018 TRAVEL COACHES

Miles Steel

Squirt A

Miles Steel

I grew up playing youth hockey in Lakeville MN, played college club level hockey at the University of Colorado, and have continued playing my entire adult life. I have my USA Hockey Level 4 certification and over the past 11 years, I have coached every age level from U8 through High School. In addition, I've organized and developed many off-season skill development camps over the years that have helped players succeed and advance in their competitive hockey endeavors.

I consider it a privilege to get the opportunity to mentor young players and their families through the great sport of hockey. Many of life's most valuable lessons are learned through participation in youth sports, and especially hockey. My coaching philosophy produces young people who can win at life in addition to learning all the fundamentals required to take this game to the highest levels.

I have high expectations for my players and their families, and am willing to work hard to help players succeed, both individually and as a team. I place high importance on the long term development of each player's skills and their understanding of what it takes to be a good teammate. While there are things a coach can do in the short term to win games, they are often done at the expense of taking the time to invest in players' long term skill and character development. I take pride in the fact that my players learn how to battle with sportsmanship, integrity, and respect for everyone involved in the game of hockey.

Jason Ackerman

Peewee AA

Jason Ackerman

Jason Ackerman began playing competitive hockey as a Squirt growing up in Minnesota, playing through high school.  He went on to play two years of ACHA Division 2 hockey (1993-1995) while attending Colorado State University.  During his two seasons his team placed 2nd and 1st respectively at the national tournament.

Jason is a Level 4 certified coach and has coached the last four seasons within the Arapahoe Warriors Youth Hockey program.  He has a passion for the game of hockey with a keen focus on development/growth, cultivating teambuilding, and a commitment to excellence.

Tim Shay

Bantam AA

Tim Shay

I was born and raised in a small town just south of Toronto called Simcoe, Ontario. I played travel hockey there until I was 15 and then was recruited to the Brantford Classics, a Junior B team in Brantford, Ontario where I played for the next 4 years. I played Center my whole life, but in my 2nd year in Junior, they transformed me into an “offensive” defenseman, which I enjoyed! I moved to the US in 1993, where I met my wife at Missouri State University and we moved to Colorado in 1999. I started coaching at Arapahoe in 2007 when my son was 4 at the U8 level and have continued coaching (being a head coach and assistant coach) since then at the Squirt B, PeeWee A, PeeWee AA and Bantam AA levels. I have been part of numerous championships, both personally and coaching but one of the major highlights in my coaching career has been winning the Quebec Qualifier at PeeWee AA here in Colorado and then travelling to Quebec for 14 days to compete with teams around the world! I still enjoy playing the game and have met most of my close friends over the years at the rink! I reside in Parker, Colorado with my wife (Kim), daughter (Lexi) and my son (Landen).
